Remember when we used to get Columbus Day off? It's a federal holiday, so we got off school too. Then it became not a "day off" but a "Fair Day." It was the day that the Texas State Fair gave all the students in the district a free ticket to the fair. For that day only. Every student in the Dallas area going to the fair on the same day. Uh, no thank you, but I'll take the day off.
Well, now they've taken that away too. No more Fair Day. The kids still got a ticket--to be used on any Sunday. Yep, Sunday. Well, gee...that's just great. We're Mormon. Should I be crying discrimination? We don't do things like that on Sundays, watching football and NASCAR notwithstanding. So we're being discriminated against, right? I wonder what TPTB would do if we really called them on that.
So anyway, no more Fair Day. That means that we go from Labor Day to Thanksgiving with no break. Not a single day off. Nada! I know, I know...a lot of people work year round with no break, blah, blah, blah. If I wanted to work like that, I wouldn't have become a teacher and I'd make a lot more money. Whatever. I'm complaining here. I try to tell myself that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's not. Halloween is just around the corner and there's not a single solitary piece of a costume to be found in this house. But that's another whiny post. This is about being tired. This is about having a day off. What happened to just one long weekend in October? What happened to Columbus Day? I guess we don't celebrate him anymore now that we know a bit more of real history. But can't we still have the day off school? I think if I have to go to school, the post office should deliver mail. If they're not delivering mail, there shouldn't be school. But I still want my snow days too, so maybe that's not the best idea.
Yes, I need a day off.

I hear ya sister! If I were in charge, I'd give you a day off! You could try driving your car through the school. Someone did that last Sunday night and it got us out of school the next day. Someone might be willing to front the $10,000 bond. I feel your pain though!
I am all for a day off!! LOL We don't get it off, I don't think we ever have. We USE to get the day after halloween off, but not anymore.
