James has been taking karate for about two years now. He goes through phases of being really into it and then not so much. But this year he's really enjoyed it. So last night, we had an awards dinner for those students who placed in the state rankings. James placed 4th in kumite (sparring.) He had a tournament that morning as well. He medaled in chanbara (swordfighting), 4th in kata (forms), and 2nd in kumite (sparring.)
He also received his orange belt recently. He's really proud of that belt and works hard on his skills. He's come a long way since he started. Two years ago, he was the kid who got hit in the head and started crying. This year--he's the kid who hits someone else in the head and makes them cry. I know...I shouldn't be proud of that, but I am. :-) Great job, James! We're really proud of you for sticking with it and doing your best!
