I'm doing the bills today and I checked out my checking account online--just to make sure that I hadn't missed anything (read: Richard bought stuff and didn't give me the receipts). Right there, on my computer screen, it says Mortgage Payment. (Ok, it actually said the name of the bank, but you know...identity theft and all.) Then right above it, it said Mortgage Payment again! After checking it all out, it turns out that I set up my account for automatic payment. Then I apparently forgot that I had done that and I made a one-time payment online.
***I DOUBLE-PAID MY MORTGAGE!!!***
Okay, so now what? Technically, according to the bank, we're not in the red yet. But that's only because I haven't turned in my tithing check yet. Well now, that's quite the dilemma. How much faith do I really have? Of course, it's the tithing check that will bounce if/when I turn it in. Everything else has gone through. Do I wait until payday and just pay all the tithing at once? Do I talk to the bishop and see what he thinks? What if he says, "Hand it over." Do I trust him? Do I trust Him?
On the positive side, I don't have to make another mortgage payment until March. Man I hate it when I'm stupid.

Stacy - check with your mortgage company before you assume you don't have to make another payment before March. I'd call, explain what happened, and make sure the second payment was credited to February... and double check your statement when you get it too.
Thanks, Patty. I checked both online and with a real person yesterday. Everything says my next payment is due March 1. The one positive in this whole thing.
I've done that before with the electric bill. I hope it all works out. Let us know though because it's fun to read about your adventures.
